When it comes to summertime sweets, nothing quite hits the spot like an ice cream sandwich. Sure, you could chase after that elusive ice cream truck, but why not make your own instead? Making your own ice cream sandwiches is easier than you think! Follow along below for easy tips and tricks for a fun summer DIY you and the family can enjoy all season long.
Step 1: Start with a Delicious Foundation
An ice cream sandwich is only as good as its base, which is why we chose our bakery department’s freshly baked gourmet cookies! Classics like chocolate chip will always be a family favorite, but have you tried any of our limited edition flavors yet?
This summer, your local ShopRite Bakery will have 2 limited edition flavors: S’mores and Red, White and Blue. The S’mores cookie is filled with chocolate chunks, graham cracker crumbs and marshmallows, while the Red, White and Blue cookies are a mix of dried raspberries, blueberries and white chocolate. With these flavors as your base, the options for your ice cream sandwiches are endless!
Step 2: Choose a Few Ice Cream Flavors
Not sure what flavors of ice cream to pick up for your DIY Ice Cream Sandwich Extravaganza? Don’t stress – you can’t go wrong with including the classics. Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookie dough are sure to be crowd pleasers, but don’t be afraid to pick up a few flavors outside the traditional, like cake batter, snickerdoodle, salted caramel and more!
Step 3: Don’t Skimp on the Toppings and Mix-ins
Toppings and mix-ins are where you and your friends get to show off your creative sides! Think sprinkles, chocolate chips, crushed up candy bars, mixed nuts (if no one has any allergies). No topping is too crazy!
Pro tip: You can use a muffin pan to hold all of your toppings for easy access!
Get creative and dig in!
